Donna ISD members of the Board of Trustees were recognized at the regular school board meeting held Tuesday, Jan. 14 for their countless hours of serving the DISD community. In observance of School Board Recognition Month, the board members were serenaded by Donna High and Donna North mariachi groups and presented with thank you cards, a plaque, and a gift basket followed by a brief reception. The board members were acknowledged for their commitment to the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) Lone Star Governance Program over the past couple of years. Under their direction, the district has seen more emphasis placed on improving student outcomes rather than day-to-day operations. This change in mindset has also been adopted into the Donna ISD local policy to ensure consistency across the district. The results have been so widespread that Donna ISD became one of the few districts in Texas to be nationally recognized for its focus on improving student outcomes by TEA’s Deputy Commissioner for Governance at the 2019 National Forum on Education Policy.
